Alternate Poker Forum - Are You A Little Confused ?

What's New to Alternate Poker Forum (please take time to read through this before posting)
We have made some changes on the forum which we hope will help new and older members alike. These may feel a little strange at first so i thought i would talk you all through some of the access points to help you get acquainted. We would very much like all members to give us feed back on these changes (what you like, what you don't like) but i would ask you to give it some days before posting so that you can get used to the new feel. In my explanation i will refer to the picture of the new "Welcome Page" below (updated : 28.09.2008).

Alternate Poker
Our main landing page can be accessed through the Home button (1). This takes you to our main resource, news, links, etc page.

The Welcome Page
This should be your first stop when entering the forum and can be accessed at all times from the Forum button (2) and the APF header (3). This page will feature Alternate-Poker Updates (8) and Alternate-Poker Quick Links (9). We have been told on occasion that the forum can be a bit daunting when first accessed so these links are designed to help you find our more frequently visited areas more quickly.

The Events Calendar
The Events Calendar (6) now shows all our upcoming tournaments with links (when underlined) directly to the given tournament thread. This should make it much easier to have an overview of all out tournaments with quicker access. For this reason the coming weeks tournaments will now be posted as Announcements in their respective area. We strongly suggest you get into the habit of using the calendar to check on APF Upcoming Tournaments.

The Main Forum Index
The Main Forum Index shows all areas of the forum as we used to have it and is essentially the same as always. Access to The Main Forum Index can be found at points (4), (5) and at the top of the Quick Links (9).

New Messages
If you have any New Messages when entering the Welcome Page, a scrolling button will appear under your avatar (7). This button will not appear here if there are no new messages. Once in the Main Forum Index, you can still access your messages from the link just above the 3 poker room banners as normal.

Recent Posts, Announcements/Stickys & Global Announcements
All Recent Posts and Stickys can be seen and accessed through points (10) and (11) whilst recent Announcements can be accessed in the table at point (12). Global Announcements (threads seen throughout the forum) will now only be used for urgent or important forum threads such as this one.

Note : Please try out the features for a few days and then feel free to come and post in this thread any thoughts, suggestions or questions you have concerning the changes. None of this is written in stone and is essentially designed to help you, the members. So if we have a consensus on a given problem, we will look long and hard to try to find a good solution !

This diagram is based on template 1 in your profiles. Of course the forum will adapt and i will update this diagram when any major changes are made.

I have noticed the changes and feel a little lost at times but now seeing this post helps and have to agree it is for the better, I just wish that the silver option had the medals showing because I like that option the best! but seeing no medals I dont like it! 4As

the medals will be coming soon, we're just waiting for our hosts to introduce the possibility (they don't work as quickly as we do ) - should be very soon and they will appear underneath where you see the "message" button.

thx for the positive response !

I think the new page simplifies finding things and should help new members. Its great that you guys are always trying to make the site better. Keep up the good work. One thing thou, I do miss the listing of members who are on line when I log in.

4A's ...Are you saying that you want the medals on the Sub-Silver template?
I haven't really done any work on this template, as I didn't think anyone used it
I can be done though, if you really want it?

Good point JR....I think we can add the who's Online table to the Welcome page, I will check it out

just wanted to say i have been very confused but now i think i have gotten hold of it
Runnymede

I am really getting to be quite familiar with the site and feeling comfortable working my way around.

Do still get a bit confused at times; but as I am not really comp.literate that is entirely my own fault.

One small request - when you post up the tourneys and put the play time as poker./nordica time EST etc. would it be possible to put BST beside it? Just for fools like me who have got myself muddled and missed the start of a tourney.

Thanks

the reason i generally put the site server time is because of all the different variations depending on where you are.

for example, for you BST or GMT makes sense but for me being in denmark, that's another hour forward. added to this, all the different time zone across the US and the rest of the world, it can really become a minefield.

the last variation is the fact that carbon / poker.com / nordica also don't change their hours in the summer time which lends even more confusion.

you can imagine how confusing this gets for me just trying to get the times right normally - hence, server time.

so i will continue with posting as normal but i will see if one of the mods has time to add some variations to the bottom of tournament posts (or maybe i have another idea, let me think on it). as you can see, it can be a bit of a problem for all of us.

the best bet is to check on the site a day before the just to be sure. i often still do that myself !
addam00

hi

add a time converter to the mlp or mlp toolbar... or people can use free time converter they have alot of them on the ne..

that's what i was thinking about except that it would probably only have standard times (not poker server times) and obviously not everyone will use the toolbar.

i'll look into it though !

OK, i've made a table to help you with these time conversions. i'll see if we can add it next to the "Events Calendar" link at the top and i will add it to each tournament post from now on :

MLP Time Conversions

you might want to check out our new MLP Toolbar which also has a simple time convertor and shows upcoming games :

The My-Local-Poker Toolbar
Runnymede

Thank you so much for the table and for all the trouble you went to.

I'm sure I wont be the only one to benefit from this.

Cheers

He's right you know.

I'm not Harry but I kinda keep an eye on all the Actives here @ MLP.
Here are only 2 links you can use to start posting.
Feel free to start a new topic here -->Poker Strategy & Rules
or here
let us know about you and yours    -->Calling All MLP Members
You can post a pic of you on yours, reply to some amazing news (worlds biggest Bad Beat Jackpot was won recently); and of course    posts about the Olympics or new movies , a new hair cut are welcome too.

(there's so much around the world - just ask 1 female human being and you got stuff for 20 posts   )

Don't say you have no idea
RenoPoker

Yes by far this is the most confusing forum layout I've ever seen!
Where are the new posts? All I seem to see is very old posts?
I don't really want to read posts from 2007 because things change so quickly and they may not apply any more.
Where is that story of the cat attacking someone's balls?

When you open a section the new posts are marked by a blue chip. Old posts have a green chip.

If you go to the bottom of the main page you`ll see a column marked "Recent Posts" you can click on anything in there and it will take you straight to that post.

Hope that helps a bit.

And the cat story is here

You can also click on "View posts since last visit" which appears just above the forum topics on pretty much every page (underneath the Chat Room login).

Take a look at the posted picture in first post in this thread

I'm a poker player, not a forum reader. Although I do find some really funny stories and stuff posted here.
