concentration online has always been a problem for me as opposed to live where i can happily go for hours. when i used to play more often in the longer tournaments, i would put stickers on my monitor saying things like "don't do it", "concentrate", "be patient", etc, just as visible reminders to myself so i wouldn't lose my way.
i also found standing up and walking around a bit when out of a hand helps clear your head a bit.

online vs live, it's very easy to lose focus online, as live there is constant banter, good looking ladies wandering around, the occasional scream from a bad beat, it keeps ya going for hours at a time no problem...
online poker, now that gets tough, especially if only playing one table, like you would in a big tourny, sometimes, I turn on my xbox & play golf or anything can you don't need to totally focus on to play, so that I can keep an eye on the table also, otherwise, the only other thing to do is multi table, when you get up to 8 tables open at the same time, you don't have a chance to let your mind wander...

That doesn't work for me, at least not most of the time. If I'm having difficulty maintaining focus on one table, there's seldom an improvement trying to play more. What happens is that I end up playing two or more tables poorly instead of just one.
What does work for me- again most of the time - is reducing distractions. So if I'm surfing, doing e-mail, watching a movie... I stop. Or I do that and stop playing poker.
