Just recently, I wanted to try the Steps at poker stars for the PCA Bahama's Europeen Poker tour. I bought into step 1 for a few dollars and in the next 2 days of playing flawless poker I made my way up to Step 6 of the challenge ( the big show) This consisted of an 18 player tournament with top 3 places paying out a prize package of $12,000. I was exstatic yet controlled knowing the work that was ahead of me. I made the final table of 9 players with the big stack 12000 chips, I figured that 18000 was enough for 3rd place, so things are looking good at this point. We were down to 5 players and my stack was still about 12k and big stack had 22k but the other 3 players had the same as me roughly. One player was going steadily all in trying to steal the blinds and he gets called with his opponent holding KK and he had A2 os. board hits flop 3,4,7, turns a 5 giving the donkey a straight. Down to 4 players now im sitting small stack. Im in the big blind holding AA, im excited to see donkey push all-in so the other 2 players fold to my right and I call, heres's my chance right? yeah he's got a 5 and 7 hearts to my AA good stuff, nope flop comes 5,8,5, turn 7, river 5. Imagine that . My biggest chance ever at a monster tournament lost on the bubble to a mad all-inner who will represent poker stars at the event when I know damn well that im a better player than him AAAARRGGGG Pissed off, took me a few days to swallow that dose of hard luck. quad 5's took me down 1 spot shy of 12k and a chance at millions!!! Booooo I will be back and persevere with the patience and disciplin taught to me by rules-of-poker, Brians work of art. Thanks again Brian, maybe next time i'll come out on top.

You know... the further I read the more I was cringing at that.

You have a tale to tell, but crikey it sounds like is should have been so different. Very unfortunate outcome.

How many hours of play was there to the bubble? Please tell me 4th place at least got paid the lose change of say... $4/5K

unlucky dude, my last 3 bigger tournies I bubbled (or real darn close to the bubble with AA, & 1 KK, but, like what can you do, donk plays, semi-bluffs, well, they do hit often enough to make you want to be sick...solid play however gets rewarded, you'll end up back there, he prob will never see that good of a finish in a big tourny again...

That is absolutely brutal. There should definitely be a bad beat clause in that tournament. Looks like Stars definitely won't have the best players representing them at the big one. Unlucky!

wow, that really damn sucks...much more then a bad beat in a little tournament, this doesnt go away of youre mind in days....

but if you made it that far and played well and lost with Aces, you will prob have a fair chanse of getting another seat at another time, so take it as experience but who wouldnt want to be there?

Thanks everyone for the comments, Was about 2 and a half hours of play at the final table, and natetrib is right 4th place gets sqwat......I'll eventually build up the courage to takle the challenge again. Thanks Brian for the welcome back. It's good to be available a little bit for everyone here. The best online community for poker by far. Great people = great success.
