shootout tournamentsit's like unwrapping a christmas present early, i just discovered shootout tournaments online, playing one right now on party poker, the format is to be 1st to 3rd @ the table you start on, playing up to 4 rounds. there was 461 players starting, then there wil be 141, then 45, then 15 players. the payouts are good, even if you only get 3rd in round 1 you have your money back.
I was chip leader @ my table, but when down to 4 players, 3rd place took out 4th & jumped over me, play stops right there, payouts for that round decided on your chipstacks.
do other sites offer this kind of tourny, & what are the typical buy ins for them, this one is a 6 buck buy in including their rake.

I like 9-10 player sitNgo's so this is just like that, but with loads more money possible to win with a small buy in, todays' example with 461 players & 6 buck buy in :
round 1
1st 11.03
2nd 7.35
3rd 6.13
round 2
1st 17.28
2nd 11.52
3rd 9.60
round 3
1st 31.11
2nd 20.74
3rd 17.28
round 4
1st 115.70
2nd 69.41
3rd 46.27

thought i'd bump this up as I heard carbon poker now has shootouts, but from what i understand, their format isn't as good as party poker's is.
party has max of 4 rounds, with a payout to the top 3 in each round, 3rd place in round 1 you get your money back, all the rest is gravy. Also, after each round, you get chipped up if your table finishes earlier than the rest.
if anyone knows more about carbon, please post, from what i have heard, it's many more rounds played, only payouts in the 1st 3 rounds, then payout for FT. This would make it a much longer format...

I'am not sure about this kind of format , maybe once in a while for an unwind, but i worry that this kind of format will increase the reckless play that we all hate, we often call it donkey or fish or just plane dumb luck . However, never having played this format i don't know if the games are full of just plane crazy pushes or gambles , and if it will encourage players to carry that style of play over to a full tourny , but then i feel low rebys encourage crazy lose play so i suppose its a format that's here to stay, and its all just part of the online poker world.

it is typical of the format, lots of donk play, but it's like a 9 player SNG, so only play top 10m hands & double you7r stack to get through first round, the rest is gravy & more aggresive play gets you lots of it...

the pay structure you mention, payouts rounds 1-3 and then ft, is only for the HU shootouts. And if entrants are not equal to structured brackets, i.e. 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, some get thier money back without having to play the first round. In a HU shootout, no one should be paid for the first round.
The regular shootouts, where top 3 of every table advance, every round is paid. There is a certain strategy to these games that I'm trying to figure out. And I'm having a blast doing it. I can advance to round 2 while being 20th overall yet the guy in 15th position get eliminated. These are great fun. Stay away from the HU tho. They need serious work on the payout structure.

Well, there is a $5 Turbo shoot out tournament NL holdem being played on Nordica as I type.
I have been watching but haven't got the hang of it as yet.
3 players advance - but I have been watching 30mins - and no ones advanced as yet?
