Should the words "I put them on"…

Should the words, “I put them on” be erased from the mind when playing Omaha Hi/Lo.

Obviously, “I put them on” has some value when only a high hand comes down; but when there are two options, what criteria can a player use to decide that an opponent has missed one of their hands and is now only playing for the high or low, or has unwisely only gone in for the low hand.

I find it's still useful to try to put people on hands in O8.  It's harder though since the fact there are more cards in play and two halves to the pot increases the hand ranges considerably.  That and it's also harder because I play a lot less than NLH so it's far less natural to estimate hand ranges.

It`s definitely tough to put opponents on ranges of hands in O8. That`s especially true if they`ve limped into the pot.

I tend to look more at the cards that people show after they`ve raised. Usually you`ll find a lot of players raising any hand with A2 in it and that`s something I`ll make a note of. Similarly if they`ll raise A3.

I tend to try and identify the players who are only playing quality hands. As soon as I have that image of them (and they do nothing to change that) I can avoid getting into hands with them when my own holdings are marginal.

I firmly believe putting a player who hasn`t read anything about the game on  a hand is virtually impossible. I had someone cold-call 2 bets with Q-J-J-9. It`s not the worst hand but it certainly isn`t worth 2 bets against an EP raise from a tight player.
