Single raiseI have notice this a lot now in games in the early stages. 5 people well limp in and then the cutoff well make a single raise of 50 chips. And of course everyone calls. Then the flop is dealt and the small blind leads off with a half size pot bet and the guy that made that single bet raise folds out. Do these people think they well get everyone to fold on this kind of bet preflop? I mean everyone is getting great odds to see the flop so they all are going to call. Imo they are just giving away free chips. Just a very bad play i think.

it is a bad play, imo, & yes most of them fold after the flop to betting...
if you have a real hand, then bet it, with a small pair or ace rag, limp with them & take em down if you hit.
a "proper" raise is 3x the BB + all the limpers chips, certain to get most out in a real game, (flearolls are another thing...)

Minimum raise has its place...

in fixed limit games.

Most this bad tactics it is possible to lose many hands in this manner.
Maximum I can imagine it on the end of the game when you have a unbeatable hand only already and the right players were left over. At this time conceivable this trick, that at what know more tokens for your own. But no way not on long time, similarly, than a bluff
The statistics indicate that you are doing from this less anyway, than if directly allin.

I dont understand this play either , why give everyone odds to call and build the pot for someone else ... just a poor play maybe they think their playing postion but just playing it badly..

The problem with this is if some one is waiting to check raise you.

I don't think it's a good reason, but I seem to recall seeing someone try to justify this by saying it's to increase the pot size early in tournaments when the blinds and thus the pots are tiny even with multiple limpers.
