Skill, luck or guts?

They say that poker is a game of skill, luck and guts. What percentage do you think each plays over time? How much of it is skill, how much luck and how much guts?

In one hand, or even a series of hands, luck will create winners and losers, but does skill always win out over the course of time? And what about guts? Having the courage to re-raise someone who is trying to bully you off the pot sometimes pays off - and sometimes doesn't.

Sometimes being brave in the wrong spot can cost you a whole lot of chips.

So which of the three is most important - skill, luck or guts?

well if  you play in one of our APF  games  its skill  and just a little luck and some guts...  if  you play like in the begging of the freeroll its all luck  or if  you play in the begging of  a mtt tourney  on poker stars  its   luck  too  well  then  if you go to  a  sit and  go I think  you can use more  skill and  cash games  you can get into skill if  your there  for awile with the same people  that is how I see it online.. but live I think its skill and  alot of other stuff  too.. so live I would say  more skill than luck and you have  to have guts

skill, luck & guts

skill the understanding of not only the value of the cards you hold, but the players that are in the pot with you, or might enter it after you, knowing from the cards that hit the flop what to expect from the players in the pot with you, knowing your outs post flop & how much they are really worth compared to the betting, & so much more...

luck the thing 99.98765% of the donkies in the world live by

guts the skill factor plays a large part here, if I play a bluff (OMG, U know I don't bluff, it's just an example) it's against an experianced player, & they can fully well believe from the cards that are out & their notes on me that I probabley do have that hand
This shouldn't be confused with haveing a 9 high flush draw, & calling a players larger than the pot all in, after all, 9 outs means you are DRAWING to it, & you'll miss it many more times than you'll hit (miss it aprox 7 times out of 10 (31% to hit turn, 18% river, aprox...& you could be drawing dead to a better flush draw)

Luck 100%

It's luck that gives you the winning hand and a marginally worse hand to your opponent. And luck again allows an opponent to overtake you sometimes at annoying frequency regardless of your play-style or betting.

The skill is maximising the profit from when you are ahead and minimising your losses when behind.

Guts is when you have no fear for your buy-in amount. Yesterday I had some dead money that I played with the intention of making enough to cash-out or lose. I came, I donked, I cashed out.
