Slow-playing when needing to earn

Say you have been playing in a TAG style.

You find yourself short-stacked in bubble play and needing to earn.

You pick up a very strong starting hand. If everyone folds to your mid/late seat (not on the button or in the sb) should you switch to a TP style and limp.

Is your attitude different if playing 08 or Texas hold’em in these situations.

How short-stacked? There`s a lot of difference for me in playing a 7xbb stack and a 12xbb stack.

And is the o8 PL or FL (I`m presuming NLHE) ?

For me, this would seem to focus on the meaning of "needing to earn".  If it means I've been running bad and haven't cashed in a while, I don't buy into tournaments where the amount I'd win for just making the money is enough to make me change my play.  Closer to when I started playing, I would tighten up to cash, but I don't think I do that any more.

If I've satellited into a tournament and just cashing would mean more money, I'd probably tighten up.  But I don't know where my threshold is, just that it's more than a couple of hundred dollars.  Never been near the bubble in a tournament where it would have been more.

we all have limped with monsters, but, especially short stacked, limping is a smoking gun, not very hard to figure out what your up to...

If i'm in the BB & you limp, i'll certainly check the 2 pair I know I will flop holding 5-2 off, & call you push on the flop...

Always better by that stage to pick up the blinds & antes with a push, assuming you have at least 4x the BB...

If you just got whacked in a hand & are holding AA, with only 2 or 3 BB, then sure, limp with it...

Now for O8, def raise with it to get a marginal draw to fold, no matter how good it looks preflop, if you don't make me pay to see it, you'll end up paying for it

By short stacked I mean 5 - 8 bb's, and by needing to earn only refers to needing chips in the bubble play to make the money spot.

Without being too specific you have 1/3 - 1/2 the amount of the next shortest stack.

The format will be NL or PL.

Unless the table is monumentally tight I`m shipping it all in with <8xbb. If it`s PLHE I`m raising the pot.

PLO8 is the devil`s own game as far as I`m concerned. I`ve played it a few times and I hate it so I`m not really qualified to give any advice on it.

With 5-8BB, I'm almost always shoving if I enter the pot, whether with a strong hand or not.  In order to limp, some very specific situations wouuld have to exist, such as I've recently tried to limp multiple times and someone has bullied me out of the pot every time.
