not really what you are asking for, but almost..
click the white "square" just right of the name of the last poster in the thread, and it will take you to the last post in that thread.

That's a cool tip about hitting the white square. It saves having to trawl through all the old posts on a long thread.

just had time to think about this ram, sorry for the delay :
to be honest, i think the way we have it now makes sense.
if you're coming into a thread and click on the main title, it seems right that you would go to the start so you can read through.
then, as mura points out, you also have the option to click on the white squarish thingy on the right, which will take you to the last post. if you hover your mouse over it, it does actually say "View latest post".
both options are there for each thread so you can go in whichever way you prefer. i think this is pretty standard for most forums and what most members would be used to.
was there something you particularly had in mind as to why you'd what it the other way around or does it make more sense with the information given here ?
i'm not against seeing if it can be changed, i just think most users will find how we have it, the easiest way.

some forums let you set it in your profile which way you want to read the threads from oldest ---> newest or newest ---> oldest
so it would all be personal settings

ok, i see.
our forum is phpbb2 rather than phpbb3 which does limit the options a little but makes the forum more stable in use.
i'll have a look though and see if we have anything like that.

still haven't found a way around the options without potentially having to set up an entire new template. i'll wait until Ram answers the above before looking deeper into it.

thats more what i was looking for but the white square tip does the job also
