We all have different names and identities in the online world. Some at least try to stay on the same subject and just do small variations when signing up for new poker rooms, some just go wild and crazy and come up with something completely new each time..

I was thinking this could be a great thread for us all to share the history and/or thoughts behind the name we chose for either a specific poker room alias or just your mlp name, and/or standard main internet identity.

my main internet alias is as you all already know muratore

background: the history behind that one is that i signed up for italian as a 4th language in high school. All because a girl i had a crush on took the same course.. of course when it all started the love story was long gone after nothing happened.. but somehow i stayed for 2.5 years of italian just for the atmosphere of it all

explaination: muratore is the italian word for bricklayer, my name is Maurer, which is the german equivalent

curiosa: the 2.5 years were probably wasted in a sense of remaining knowledge since i only remember a few catch phrases now.. such as.... "quando lei non c'é, tengo io il cane" which in english is, "when she is not here, i take care of the dog"

but i dont regret taking the course since i had a great time just being there with a crazy teacher and great friends too so it was all in good fun (even tho i missed most of it in the last year since they scheduled it first class on monday and last on friday

both these names are of course derivatives from muratore..

i didnt come up with any of them myself really

it all started on another forum when i was in one of my hot streaks and won 3 consecutive tournies in one day

a member of that forum then came up with murarific muralusion.. that was a "name" that kind of stuck to me and a few ppl started calling me different variations of that phrase

so when choosing a name when signing up for Poker Nordica and muratore was not availible

i chose that old gem

after playing with it i realized it was way too long for most ppl

so when signing up for future rooms i just picked the shorter version of murific instead

the originator of the name is actually an MLP member and poster but so far not a player, nooooooo way anyone knows his MLP name

Demon came from watching a race & the commentator refering to one driver as a real speed demon

so I combined the two & there it is...

With so many poker sites out there in the same network, many times I end up adding a number after it, like 69

or taking out an O and haveing to replace it with a zero...

Mikx3 - from the time I was 8 my schoolmates decided Mikki would be my nickname because we did a cursory geneology project in school and I found out my name was Michelle McDennin but the Mc had been dropped at Ellis Island. By the time I hit high school I was called Mik the Mick. As fate would have it I end up marrying a guy named Miklosik and Mikx3 was born.

I have no idea how I came up with my name... I think someone kept on calling me bubba and bubba was already used in most sites so IO just ended a but at the end.... and adam is my name... I think i do have another name on a nother site that is totally diiferent.... oh ya the one on cake newtwork SSSShhh its a secret one only a few know..

when i was at school i wanted to be a script writer / film director (i was ambitious

) and orsen wells was my big hero at that time. one of the truely great maveriks of the 20th century in my mind.

when i eventually stumbled into some kind of music career, i didn't want to release music under my own name but decided on a character orson wells plays in the movie "the third man". i felt his style somehow reflected in the bands style and i wanted to pay homage to a great inspiration.

people actually started calling me harry and i would rarely correct them so to this day i tend to answer naturally to two different names. it made sense to adopt the same monikor as a poker player when i could and as a forum member.

On rare occasions i have accounts under this name as a homage to my defunct label Alternate Records.

i actually use different aliases for other things as well. as a singer / producer and label owner i was marc alexander and as a web designer, the blob (it's true i swear).

Some days ago read the My Rules of Poker welcome and find that Harry wasn't the real name.

About Pool, at first related to the swimming, but then crossing a couple of words and reading his posts let me see that water is not like is ideal drink, so, pool the game was more like his alcohol type

I use DM partly because I just always liked the cartoon and partly as a bit of a play on the Phil Helmuth method of assiging players animals to define their charcteristics as a poker player.

The other name I use "WAYLANDER" is the title character of a book by David Gemmell. I use that when DangerMouse won`t fit because of name length restrictions.

Ramster - Is because when my daughter was little she was always asking if she could have a hamster but it always came out as ramster
On most sites it is usually some sort of play on that name

Nowadays when i sign up to a new site it is usually Lexlew as in a play on my grandchildrens names LEXi and LEWis or Deefer as in D for Denis

HOUSECATS, I grew up in KY and and watched the UK wildcats play ball so I used cats in my name. There were a lot of people using wildcats so I had some housecats at home and it sounded good to me so I went with HOUSECAT. On different sits i just add a number to it.

Many years ago, when I started using the Internet I joined a chat site (WBS-if anyone remembers it) and quickly had to decide on a name in order to see what chat was all about. My mother sometimes called me Wendifer when I was a little girl, so I chose that name (my name is Wendy, but apparently she always wanted to name me Jennifer)

Within a week, I saw all the cute, neat, creative names that people had and felt that mine was too much like a real name and I wanted to have a more interesting name. I spent hours going over different ideas and finally came up with Soft_Myst. SOFT because I was soft

and it also implied I was a girl. I used MYST because I really liked the game MYST and myst could be construed as mysterious, mystical, mystery, etc. And so together SOFT MYST ... was a play on the phrase "soft mist"

Since then, I have had occasions where I had to use a different name (like poker sites) --- so I have used varieties of Soft usually, Like SoSoft, SoVerySoft, BabySoft, BabyMyst, xSOFTx, MsNomer, etc. That was 12 years ago and I'm still using Soft_Myst as my main name. I did once use the name SortaSoft cause I wasn't feeling all that friendly that day. LOL

--10 years ago I wrote a book about Internet Chat. Included in my survey of over 500 people --I asked them what their handle was and why they chose it. One guy I wondered about was pea_uu. --- Turned out that those were his initials PW. --- a large number of people use their pet's name. I've probably said too much already so I'll stop now.

Missie Hen was the name of our first dog together, sadly gone but not forgotten.

My name is Julie. Whenever the little ones tried to say it they always said it wrong. My young nephew started calling me tukie cause he couldn't say it and it stuck. I couldn't get tukie on some sites so I use tukiebird. I also use doufsmom on some sites that came from my son his nickname is douf so I just added the mom.

I try and use the same username every where or some form of it , if i have to add a number its usually 29.

JK stands for my intials

KY is for Kentucky which is where i have lived all my life

29 if i use a number , its a sports number i have used for years

My sister and I are the best of friends. All the people we hang around called us the twisted sisters. So it is pretty easy. twis is for twisted, sis is for sisters and a is for Angie. My sisters name is Brenda, so of course she is twissisb. She does not play poker, so I did steal her name for one of the sites. I enjoyed reading all of your posts for this thread.

My name in the real world is Ray, so I've got a few screen names with that as the theme - including Rayver, Rayzor and StingRay.

I was getting a bit bored with that after a while so I tried to pick words which aren't used too much in the English language nowadays, such as Vagabond and Rapscallion.

Then I got a bit bored of that and went on a painful run of bad beats so I thought 'What sums me up at the moment?' It had to be MrBadBeat, so I've run with that theme for a little while, coming up with stuff like BadBeatKing and BadBeatBandito.

I'm getting a bit bored with that now so I'm going to think up a new theme. Maybe something French - peut-etre - or on a Latin theme - I did a lot of that at school.

Well I am Mysterys on most sites but now that I am a poker junkie I have had to come up with new names so usually there is Oasis in it now. The only one place I don't have Mysterys or Oasis in it is carbon I am Rumker there cos a good friend of mine likes his Rum and when he drinks rum he tends to become not so nice and hence the ker on the end lol

I call him Rumker and when I went to get my account at carbon thought I would be funny lol plus I wanted to see how long before he realized it was me

Mysterys came from my pogo name Mysteryswonder - yes pogo lol back in the day I played there before I decided to learn poker. When I joined the forums Mysteryswonder was to long so I shortened it and became Mysterys

I have changed my name alot on the cake network cos I play alot of ring tables and people start knowing me lol so I try to be on the downlow but I always let people know in league games its me Mysterys
