Who said I’m a cheap date (it's good to be a donk)

Since we had each been given a free $10 on PokerTime,   Tracey and I have enjoyed playing some of their extreme turbo sit and go’s,   some low limit cash tables  :smt087 and bought into the OFC game too.

My $10 has hovered around its starting amount, (I win some, I lose some).

Last night when Tracey took an early bath, I went for some PokerTime fun. I thought I’d relate the tale.

I can honestly say; I have never had such a dry run in one session on a cash table…   even the rubbish hands that you’d lay-down in a heartbeat missed (the ones you curse at because they would have flopped a house, 7’s over 2’s).   The cards were so bad that from 2 3/4 hours of play I can remember all the winning hands.

After the first hour, when Tracey was out of the bath she took over in an attempt to bring a change of luck.   I had had 7-2off, 6-3off from any worthy position,   with only the occasional rag queen when out of position.   The only playable hands in one hour were a suited A-Q that everyone folded to minimum raise, because I had played so little; and pocket 9’s that hit a low flop and despite a pot sized bet were out drawn on the river by a rag ace player.

Confident that this cold seat would warm up at some point,   I watched Tracey getting the exact same cards as I had been,  and mentioned to her that I had folded 8d-4d from early seat to a 2xbb raise and would have flopped a flush  which would have stood up, then in the very next hand from UTG, the random card generator decided to poke fun at me by dealing me Qd-2d that I let go, and would have flopped the nuts.

During the second hour we were laughing as every deal brought us closer to the big cards; our luck had to change soon…. or not; 6-3off, 9-2off, oh look I have a picture …well a Jack ~ but no kicker.   Somehow the $4.00 I took on to the table was now $1.50 and I/we have not played any hands from other than the BB without a raise (apart from an occasional steal… no one will call a player this tight).

The telephone rings and I answer it; keeping one eye on the laptop I keep talking to my friend Russ about the world, the universe and chuckling about how badly our luck is going.

After 2 1/4 hours; “Oh look,” Tracey suddenly perks up, “A-J” (off suit of course),   I partially interrupt the phone call and interject, “raise it up,”  we get a caller, flop top pair, bet and take a massive pot and are back to $2.00.

Cheering our new found fortune and convinced we have turned the corner (yep, we’re easily pleased ) the next hand we have pocket Jacks from mid table.   UTG raises 4xBB. We and one other go with it and see a low flop 4-8-4. UTG checks, Tracey bets the third player folds, UTG raises our bet.

Hmmmmm is he taking the Mickey? I Don’t care we’ve had some fun for the night even if it is only enjoying such a bad run.

“Stick ‘em all-in,” I tell in a way certain to be paid off.

You’ll like this; UTG had raised with 6-4.

So we come off the table having had a bit of entertainment that cost us $4.00. In English £1.00 each for the hour we each play. (Who said I’m a cheap date).

Tracey closed the PokerTime room and I asked why, “We can go to another table and win it all back in a seat that has better fortune.”

“Or you can donk it off trying too hard to double up, “she replied.

“Pah… Moi donk it of…   it is $6.00 left from a free $10, lets have a laugh on an O8 table.”

Tracey re-opened the PokerTime client, we found an O8 table with 3 seated, and began working the stack up a little, enjoying the split pots   and laughing at the newbie wondering how, when they had A-2 for the low, they still lost out.

All of a sudden we were out drawn in a bigger pot;   the table had grown to the full 10 seats, no-one new with more than a dollar or two each   and had become loose.

Yep time to go. But why leave when we are down to $4.00. We have had a belly full of food   a small aperitif;     let’s have some fun.

A couple of hands had been played like a war with the neighbours,  at the termination of the brinkmanship it was clear no one had a clue what they were doing.  :q70:

So when we’re dealt A7KK three suited in the BB we wanted a look at the flop.   The first six players limped,  until the cut off made minimum raise. (He was doing that every hand). Yep we’re good with that and call.

…..Whoosh,   raise   re-raise   call   fold fold raise   call fold…  re-raise your re-raise    …we  have $1.60 in pre-flop.

Flop 4-Q-4, only us and the cut off had any chips left to put in.    We bet $1.60 (this is such a donkey table I may be bluffing in a dead pot (or several dead pots) but what the heck…  even if we lose the entire $10, it was free money and it is fun to be a donk once in a while).

Cut off may have had a hand…  we never knew: he raised us.

“Okay what shall we do now,” Tracey asks.    “Shove ‘em all in… I can feel a King coming,”   I say thinking, ‘we don’t have a prayer.’

The cut off calls, leaving him with about $1.20.

“Kiiiiiiiiiing” I call, “Kiiiiiiiiii-iiiiiii-iiiiiiing”. As a Queen comes on the turn.

“King King King King King King King,” I chant as a …….

King hits on the river. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

I could smell it.  :q72:

‘nfriver.’ The cut off offered.

‘tx’ we replied.

I got $13.50 now.

The point of this story… well I hope you share the fun we had in the poor run and the 2 outer on the river,  (because we were surely behind until then).

However… it’s just $10   or £5  in English money or 57 million Lira   (something like that). A whole night of rock and roll fun, for less than a packet of cocaine.

The next time I get all bristly when donked on the river,   I shall come back and read this and know that when you wait long enough, your luck will come… and sometimes… just sometimes, it’s good to be a donk.

Are you sure you were not playing at Doyles last night, KN?  It could have been you sitting next to me at the one sng that I decided to play.  AA, KK, TT all cracked by the same guy with 64, T2, and 56.

And just what does that say when you can predict the river card?  Maybe that you have been playing so long that your brain has synced up with the RNG?  Hey, I'm way behind, I gotta call.  This pot is mine.  I hope that there weren't any mlpers at the table or else you may be the fan favorite in the backstage poll.

We had another go last night.

T had a run of good cards but lost her last $2 on the site.

I had another run of terrible cards   until an AK stood up and put me back in the driving seat.  Then this morning.......

I was expecting another "nfrirver" comment,  but despite some pot   and 1/2 pot sized bets   from me, was even more amazed to see xuan2000 (playing 10h-4h) had gone all that way on two draws, which when they missed s/he tried to bluff off at the end.
