I`d usually just limp in with 22 and then be willing to call a reasonable size raise.
I know most online tourney pros say you should never enter a pot where you`re first to act with a limp. I can see the logic behind that but at the same time I really don`t see much point raising with small pp from EP. You`re only playing the hand hoping to flop a set. It`s not like you`re going after the blinds because they just don`t matter at such an early stage. The idea behind raising is to give you a bigger pot if you do happen to spike your set.
My objection against that theory is let`s say you make a standard 3.5 times raise from UTG with blinds at 5/10. Now someone in late position has a good hand and decides to re-raise. You`ve raised to 35 and he makes it 120 to go. So you call and miss the flop. You`ve invested 120 in the pot and can`t really bet out. If you limp the raisor is going to make it 45-55 to go. If you miss the flop you have considerably less invested in a hand that only hits one time in 7.5 flops.

agreed.
early on, you're looking to get in cheap and hit your set. even calling a smallish raise is worth it considering your implied odds against 2 or 3 other players.
if the betting gets to hot or you miss your flop, it's an easy fold without getting into deep water.
i think this goes for a lot of small pocket pairs and also low suited connectors as early on in the tournament, you can get in cheap against multiple players with the possibility of huge rewards if you hit big without a great deal of risk.

I'd raise with them, but only in a heads up tournament.
