Hi Everyone

I've decided to implement a couple of changes on the forum which i will explain below. I feel hope these will make sense to you all so please do read through for the whole picture. If any of you feel strongly about these changes, feel free to throw down your thoughts here. If there is a strong enough weight of opinion one way or another with some good arguements to back it up, i'll be happy to review these changes.

So here they are :

The APF Hall Of Fame
From July, we will be retiring the medals ranking part of the Hall Of Fame. The problem i have always had with this table is that it doesn't not necessarily reflect the best player but more the players that have been on the forum the longest and played the most games, obviously not in all cases but i'm sure you can get my drift.

If we were to have a true rankings table, it should really be based on averages. I did try this some time ago but it really is a massive job and probably not really worth the time.

Added to this, newer members that join the forum are unlikely to have any real chance of getting to the top of the table which again rather makes the whole thing redundant and essentially keeps the table interesting only for those longer memebrs playing here nearer the top.

This does not mean that we are abandaning all the awards ....oh no !

If you look at my profile to the left, you will see that we will now be showing the type of medal and how many won, clearly under each medal. This will make it much easier for all to see whilst, i hope, giving a good sense of personal achievement for all our members.

We will also run some periodic "Medal Races" (much like a league and over a couple of months) with top players going on to either a special event and perhaps even a revised Champions League Heads Up competition. I think this will keep things fresher and i hope, encourage newer members, to play more games with us.

The Hall Of Fame will still reflect honours and achievements as before much as you can already see in the awards area of that thread.

I'll slowly be going through each members profiles through the next week so don't worry if yours hasn't changed immediately !

The retired Medal Ranking Tables will of course be accesible in the Forum Archive.

Tournament Passwords (Buyins Only) From July 1st
Now i'm a big fan of our current password system but it does take a fair bit of work to update lists, etc and we do seem to be losing numbers slowly which will naturally make it harder for me to get sponsorships from the various rooms to add money to our games.

In light of this, we will be going back to the old system of placing the password in the Events Calendar for most buyin games. The password will normally be posted 3 to 4 hours before each buyin commences. Should we start having any problems with this again, we can always revert back to the current system but hopefully this will help get a few extra players in whilst making life much simpler for us backstage.

Freerolls and special events will continue to have listings as normal.

New members will be encouraged to fill out their "Profiles" or post their "Screen Names" to ensure they recieve any medals or awards collected. This will be their responsibility.

Profile Fields
To neaten up the "Profile Fields", i'm reducing the number seen in posts to 3 although you will still be able to see more Screen Names in each members personal Profile. I'll be changing some of these to reflect the sites we tend to play at as and when necessary so please have a look now and again to make sure your SN's are correct.

That's it for now, thanks for reading through and please feel free to comment (even if you dislike the above) or ask questions about any of these changes. Nothing is ever written in stone folks !

The password thing is always an awkward balance between looking after the interests of existing regular members and encouraging forum growth. Lets hope this move impacts well in both directions.

However: I'd challenge the closing statement.

These seem like sensible changes to me.

Sounds like sensible changes to me. Didn't fully understand if there was to be some kind of current ranking thing.  But whatever you need to do, is fine by me.   Been a long time since we've had hooligans invade the tourneys. LOL --- Perhaps we could use a bit more excitement.

All very practical changes. I especially like that buyin pw will be available in events calendar. Don't we all want to encourage as many buyin players as possible, regardless of forum activity? Good move.

well everything sounds good to me but then again i havent ben around in quite some time. Not sure this would work but what if you made the event calinder as a members only place and have to be logged in to be able to get into it instead of a guest just being able to click on it and reading (just a thought and not sure if you tried this or not yet)

that's how we already have it kp.

we changed it back when we had greater numbers and problems with the password going out to players that were simply too disruptive to our games and as we didn't have lists it was hard to pinpoint which members were causing the hassle.

i don't think we'll have that problem right now and we can always switch back again if it doesn't work out.

All seems very sensible and makes sense to me.

Could I just ask why we no longer use Poker.co;  Cake; or Bodog?
I used to like those sites and don't see them nowadays?

of course you can ask runny.

it's simply a case of sponsorship. with many of these sites, they are willing to add some of the money to our games but that will only continue if we get the sign-ups and produce revenue for them. much like any business. for example, last month we really didn't produce any number at Doyles Room. for this reason they want to wait a month before taking the option of offering us some added cash. as disappointing as this is, i cannot blame them and only hope that our numbers pick up as i think most of us agree, it's a good room for APF games.

at the moment, we earn just about enough here to keep the forum going as we are (to cover the expenses) so sponsorship are essential to fill up that calendar.

with bodog, it was me putting in the extra cash when we had regular games there and we really didn't do the numbers to make it worth continuing. however, i still have a really good relationship with our rep there which is why we get the occasional cool game with them.

so it's always that balance of trying to find sponsors but not opting for any old site just because they want to throw money at us. for this reason, we have an awful lot to thank Poker Nordica for, as they have so far backed us through thick and thin with great sponsorship each month.

OK Harry  -  thanks for the info. and YES I do understand the sad facts that for these sites it is a business and of course you cannot personally keep supplementing the cash.

As you say thank goodness for P.Nordica for their continuing support as from what I have seen it is the site we seem to get the most players for our games  -  and long may it continue!!!!!

I really enjoy all the games I play with everyone which in the main seem to be played in great good humour  -  even when the likes of me pull off a bad beat through totally naff play

Anyway, thanks again to yourself and to all the hard working "staff" for their endeavours on forum's behalf.

GOOD WORK EVERYONE
